Officials said Renzi, Revels and two others committed the crime spree on November 15, 2021. Detectives said the case ended the next day with Elvanna's murder outside a Costco store in North Dallas.
In court, detectives said that the day before Elvanna was killed, Renzi, who was wearing an ankle monitor, stole a truck in Highland Park. The juvenile and three adult suspects used the truck to rob two students outside South Oak High School and attempted to carjack a woman at North Park Center.
Detectives say the suspect showed up at Costco about 10 minutes later and confronted Elvanna, attempting to rob her.
A homicide detective testified that the suspect “pointed a gun at the victim and said, “Give me everything,'''' and “The victim answered “No'' and was shot.''
Prosecutors said Renzi had a long criminal history and was on probation before he shot Elvanna.
Prosecutors presented evidence that Range was on probation for robbery when he was released just two weeks before Elvanna's murder because there was no room for him in a juvenile facility.
“I strongly believe that he will not be released at that point. My father will still be here,” Iman Elbanna said at an earlier press conference.
