BuzzBrews Kitchen, a small restaurant chain, has fallen into financial difficulties.
Buzz Brews, a Dallas-based operator of hearty breakfast and late-night eateries, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas on Dec. 11. Ernest Belmore is listed as BuzzBrews' president in the filing, with assets estimated at up to $50,000 and debts ranging from $500,000 to $1 million.
It's unclear what the bankruptcy filing means for the restaurant business. BuzzBrews has two locations. One is on North Central Express and the other is in Deep Ellum. Buzzbrews Inc. is listed in tax records as the owner of business personal property at each location. However, the Deep Ellum store was actually sold earlier this year, Culture Map reported.
BuzzBrews first opened in 2005. It had grown to include his third location in the Lakewood area, but the flagship store closed in August after his eight years in business.
The North Central Expressway location was open when a reporter called last week, but Belmore did not respond to a request for comment. Messages left with John Paul Stanford, an attorney for Quilling Selander Lownds Winslett, and Moser PC, who is representing BuzzBrews in bankruptcy court, were also not returned.
In its filing, BuzzBrews estimates it owes money to between 50 and 99 creditors. A list of the largest creditors has not yet been submitted to the court.
Unlike Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which typically allows a company to restructure its debts and continue operations, Chapter 7 bankruptcy typically involves the liquidation of assets.
