Oncor has restored power to 340,000 customers so far, according to a press release. Oncor expects power to be largely restored by Friday.
DALLAS — Nearly 24 hours after massive storms ripped through North Texas, downing power lines and causing blackouts, Oncor said it expects power to be mostly restored to customers by Friday.
Oncor teams have been on the ground since Tuesday morning working to restore power, Oncor announced in a press release Wednesday morning. The company now expects most power to be restored to the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Friday evening. The heavily affected areas are expected to be restored on Saturday, according to the release.
“We recognize the difficulty and inconvenience customers experience after a severe storm such as this one and are focused on restoring power as quickly and safely as possible,” Oncor said in a statement. “Customers are encouraged to check on neighbours, elderly and vulnerable residents and to find alternative sources of power if they are without power.”
Oncor has restored power to 340,000 customers so far, but the company said the storm caused significant damage to its system, causing power outages for 650,000 people.
Oncor said its teams have brought in an additional 5,000 personnel from neighboring states and are working around the clock to restore power. If meter bases or weatherheads were damaged during the storm, an electrician must be contacted to inspect the city before power can be restored, according to the release.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said Tuesday he expects “many Oncor customers will be without power for several days.” He and several other county judges declared disasters in their counties on Tuesday.
