On Thursday night, the Dallas Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time since the 2011 season, when Dirk Nowitzki was still on the roster.
They defeated Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, 124-103, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
Following the big win, Nowitzki posted a post that garnered more than 22,000 likes and 200,000 impressions in 20 minutes.
Nowitzki writes:: “The finals!!! Let’s go!”
The Mavericks were led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
In 37 minutes of playing time, Doncic shot 14 of 22 from the field and 6 of 10 from three-point range to finish with 36 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Irving finished with 36 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists on 14-of-27 field goal shots and 4-of-10 3-pointers in 40 minutes of play.
The Mavericks will now face Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals.
The Celtics defeated the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The first game of the series will be held on June 6th in Boston, Massachusetts.
Nowitzki is one of the best players in Mavs history.
The Hall of Famer appeared in 1,522 regular season games, averaging 20.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 38.0 percent from three-point range.
He also appeared in 145 playoff games and led the Mavs to the 2011 NBA championship by defeating LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
