Brain health is a top priority for Emma Hemming Willis and Helen Cristoni, co-founders of women's wellness brand Make Time. After making their company debut last year with supplements for brain, body, and beauty, the duo has put that philosophy into their first podcast, which launches today on Amazon.
In their latest venture, Willis (Bruce Willis' wife) and Christoni are inspiring women to explore how they prioritize their “me” moments. In its debut episode, Make Time's first guest is Dr. Barbara Sturm, the celebrity-loved aesthetic expert known for creating the “Vampire Facial,” which injects a patient's plasma-rich platelets (PRP) into skin care. . Twenty years after pioneering this treatment, the plastic surgeon turned beauty expert shares how to live an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, make time for simple health and skin care routines, and more. About Makeup, she shares tips with her Time co-hosts.
Sturm urges listeners to “don't feel like you're being bullied.” [beauty] This is how the industry and marketing should be.can still be stored [your skin-care routine] It's so simple and will bring success to your skin. A hyaluronic acid serum and a good face cream that nourish your skin, eliminate inflammation, and keep your skin barrier and microbiome intact are all you really need. ”
She adds that you don't necessarily need to follow a dozen-step skincare routine with retinol, resurfacing treatments, and other products. “Suddenly your face gets red, dry, eczema and it's scary, but now you have to take care of it. There's a lot of confusion in this industry and market, and women are feeling anxious. We always recommend following sites like ours to get educated, we always have skin schools and masterclasses on YouTube. [so you can learn] Learn a little about skin physiology and ingredient science and make your choices based on the knowledge you have. ”

The trio also discuss the joys of foraging for wild mushrooms, the effects of adopting a plant-based diet on bloating and inflammation, and more.
Co-founder of Make Time says hollywood reporter We spoke on Zoom about how the company was born and why focusing on women's brain health has become its mission. Willis has been open about her husband Bruce Willis' diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia and how her family is making the most of their time together.
“We spend a lot of time at home. It's hard to answer because I'm my husband's care partner. [the question of how we spend time]” says Willis. THR. “We're just spending a lot of time. Time is a gift, it really is. And we're just taking it day by day and really enjoying time with our family. And for ourselves. Taking time for yourself is essential. Before you can take care of your loved ones, you must first be able to take care of yourself. So it's actually important to make it a priority. Take care of yourself. That's okay because if you don't take care of yourself, you can't take care of your loved ones. So I try to make that a priority. It's not always easy, but it's definitely a top priority. ”

Cristoni added: “Everyone knows someone in their family, someone else’s family, who is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, or who is caring for someone else. 11 million caregivers are women. This is a huge statistic. Also, women make up two-thirds of the world's dementia patients, but no one talks about it, so this is a very serious issue. [The response] We all have so much to gain from this because everyone is affected by this in some way. People say, “Thank you.” Everyone has been so supportive of our mission for women who first make time and then think about their brains as well. And like I said, it's always an icebreaker to ask, “Has anyone talked to you about your brain lately?” It's great to be able to have these important conversations and be a pioneer in this really important conversation. ”
The Make Time lineup currently includes four products: Brain Health Powder, Prenatal Health Powder and Gummies, Sugar-Free Women's Multivitamin and Rhodiola Gummies, and accessories such as hats, glass tumblers, and drink mixers. The company is also partnering with her Hilarity for Charity, an Alzheimer's disease awareness and caregiver advocacy nonprofit co-founded by Seth and Lauren Rogen.
“They have a really great program,” Cristoni says. “They're also talking about the importance of brain health, so we agree on so many things. For us as a brand, it really means a lot to be able to donate to them, to be able to talk about them.” There is a thing.”
Willis and Cristoni detail the beginnings of their brand, the wellness routines that sustain them today, and their favorite fitness and skin care products.
How did the two of you connect and how did Make Time come about?
willis I was trying to bring another brand, Coco Baba, from Germany to the United States, and a friend of mine helped me with that. As we were hitting some roadblocks, my friend said, “You should meet my friend Helen Cristoni. This is exactly what she does.” I did. And then Helen and I met and we became good friends right away. I loved her strategy and helped bring Coco Baba to the United States. And then the coronavirus happened.
So we started connecting over other things. One of them was about brain health. At the time, I was suffering from brain fog and “mom brain” and was seeing doctors and being prescribed fistfuls of medication and taking these vitamins, but I really noticed a difference. But I said to Helen, “I'm tired of choking on handfuls of pills.'' It would be great if we could turn this into one easy-to-take supplement. Then Helen said, “We can definitely do that.'' That's how Make Time was born. ”
cristoni We took development seriously. We really want the Make Time for Brain Health formula to be an all-in-one for women, something that can be taken every day, is really delicious, and covers all aspects of brain, body, and beauty. This is truly an all-in-one supplement that covers all your women's multivitamins and includes biotin and the best for beauty. Omega-3s, MCTs, and all kinds of beautiful ingredients that support a healthy brain. We're really proud of this because it's a really great solution for women.
When we started talking about this, no one was talking about it. I thought, “Oh my god, no one is talking about their brains to the woman who recently told you about them.” It's not a conversation between women. I thought, “Wow, what a great platform to actually talk to women about their brains and how important it is for us to think about our brains and really start a conversation.” It's that simple. You can add it to your water bottle, add it to your smoothie, or just drink it as a drink.
It's as simple as the brand name. This is actually more than a brand, and contrary to the term, it's simply a movement for women to learn how to make time for themselves. I think self-care has been pretty washed out. I think when you ask someone, “What do you make time for?” it becomes very specific. What do you take time out of your day to truly feed your soul? We think that's very important to our brand and communicating that.
Make Time Sugar-Free Vitamins for Women
Please tell us more about your latest supplement, “Make Time for Rhodiola,” which you released last fall. What led you both to that material?
cristoni I was and always have been a huge Rhodiola fan, and a few years ago I worked on Rhodiola in a different capacity. Although it is an adaptogenic herb, it has not received enough attention. Rhodiola's job is to reduce cortisol while improving her performance, so it's something every woman should have in her bag.
If you're busy, a mother, or on the go, Rhodiola is something every woman should have in her bag. Because Rhodiola really lowers cortisol levels, which improves the body's performance and improves performance. Fight or flight, you do all these things. It is an adaptogen used by Olympic athletes and astronauts for maximum performance. We've had a lot of fun incorporating it into consumer products and introducing women to this amazing herb, and we've gotten a great response. And it's so delicious that I have to try not to eat the whole jar.
A really, really great product, even for people who hate caffeine. For people who can't drink much caffeine, this can be very helpful in improving concentration, ability, and performance without increasing anxiety.
Speaking of feeding your soul, what activities are sustaining you right now?
cristoni One of my big pillars is fitness, so I'm really trying to get back into running. I'm an avid runner, so lacing up my shoes and heading out the door every day is very important to me. If you make time for it every day, it will open doors and make you super productive throughout the day. I realized that if I didn't take time for myself in the morning to put on my sneakers and walk out the door, everything would become a mess and it would be more about what happens to me than what happens to the world when I go out. Fitness is always a top priority for me.
willis Being able to start your day with some form of exercise will definitely set the tone for the rest of your day. I end up drinking more water. The reason you want to put healthy food into your body at the beginning of the day is because you've done something beneficial for your body, and you'll feel so much better after working out. I think it helps clear your head. It doesn't have to be such an intense exercise. Either train at home or just go for a hike. Being outdoors is my meditation, and I can listen to a podcast or just listen to nothing at all. Just walking and being in nature is really grounding for me.

Speaking of running, Helen, do you have a favorite pair of running shoes?
cristoni Hoka is definitely my favorite running shoe. For women, bones become very delicate when running outdoors, especially as we get older. Just be careful. This means it's a well-cushioned shoe, so you can get out and run as much as you want without impacting your bones. That's why I'm a big fan of Hoka.
What other health-focused activities are you trying to make time for these days?
willis I have something under my desk that I use to roll my legs over. Let me grab it. This is what you're supposed to use for your lymphatic system. This is a Cocobaba foot roller and I use it under my desk to stretch out my old feet. I love it. I just think it's very relaxing. So as I sit here at my desk talking to you, I'm rolling.
And my cult favorite, which I have to say is on my desk every day, is Coco Baba's body serum. I use it by applying it on my hands. So I had it on my desk all day in my hand. Probably the only thing I do religiously is apply this body serum on my hands. That will take age out of my hands. I'm hooked.
I also have Lumebox. Red light therapy is one of the things I've been paying attention to lately. It kind of looks like a disco, doesn't it? If I have sore muscles or a sore neck from training, I have a little Lumbox and a red light disco at the end of the day. Her husband always says, “Oh, is it disco time?” And I think, “Oh, now it's time for red light therapy.”
