It appears the Dallas Cowboys will not use the franchise tag this offseason. This would put an end to six consecutive years of use of the tag.
The period for placing the franchise tag on players begins Tuesday and ends in two weeks. This designation prevents players from entering the free agent market and gives teams that apply the designation more time to reach long-term contracts.
If no deal is reached, the veteran will play next season on that one-year deal.
In total, the Cowboys applied the tag 11 times on eight players. Examples of past tag usage in this franchise include:
Year | player |
---|---|
2002 | Frozell Adams |
2008 | ken hamlin |
year 2012 | anthony spencer |
2013 | anthony spencer |
