The North Texas Toll Road Authority has given the green light for construction to begin in spring 2024.
COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas North Tollway Authority on Wednesday approved a six-mile extension of the Dallas North Tollway in Collin County.
The expansion includes six lanes (three in each direction) through Prosper and Celina.
“It's certainly one of the fastest growing regions in the country,” said Michael Ray, NTTA's media relations manager. “So the time is right to extend the Dallas North Tollway.”
The 6-mile “Phase 4A” construction is scheduled to begin in the spring and will extend the highway from US 380 to FM Road 428.
“Phase 4B” of the future toll road will be 12.4 miles long and extend from FM 428 to the Grayson County line.
“We are excited to expand DNT, a staple of North Texas, and provide travel options to new communities,” said Elizabeth Moe, NTTA Deputy Executive Director of Infrastructure, in a press release. “History has shown us that wherever NTTA roads lead, economic development and prosperity quickly follow.”
The project, scheduled for spring, will cost $183 million, records show.
NTTA is funding the project, but said it will still cost money to eventually use the road. Drivers may need to be patient as the project progresses.
“Entering and exiting [the area] “It's almost impossible to do construction without some kind of impact on traffic,” Ray said.
