Dallas detectives are investigating the killings of two men outside a shopping center as a capital murder case.
No amount of memorials can begin to understand the pain and violence that two Dallas families are currently enduring.
Staphanie Sharp said her brother Morland Smith, 51, was one of two men killed early Wednesday morning outside a shopping center in the 9500 block of Saine Road near St. Augustine. He said that.
“I don't know what I'm feeling,” Sharp said. “It's anger, pain and disbelief.”
Dallas police detectives said officers responded to the shooting just after 9 a.m. Wednesday and found Smith and 22-year-old Jamarcus Irving. Both were shot, and both survived.
Yellow evidence markers showed dozens of shots were fired outside the cosmetics store and several windows were smashed. Investigators have not said whether the suspect targeted either victim.
Jacqueline Edwards said her longtime partner, Smith, had just left to buy breakfast nearby.
“He called me right before it happened,” Smith said. “He asked me if I wanted a donut.''
Edwards said he doesn't understand why anyone would want to hurt Smith, a loving brother and uncle with a caring heart and a good soul.
“Inwardly they feel like this can't go on,” Edwards said.
DPD has set a $5,000 Crimestoppers reward for any information. Sharp hopes some motive will lead to an arrest.
“If anyone knows anything about these guys, please don't hold anything back,” Sharp said. “Please, it could be your family, it could be someone you know.”
