Following a tragic accident Saturday night in which a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a driver who continued driving approximately 40 miles to a fast food restaurant in White Settlement with the victim's body in the passenger seat. The family released a statement.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. Saturday when a driver apparently slumped over the steering wheel of a wrecked car parked near the Jack in the Box restaurant off Interstate 30. The incident was reported to police in a white neighborhood. Officers arrived first and found the body of 45-year-old Terry Ivory in the passenger seat of the car.
Authorities told the driver, Nestor Luján Flores, 31, to exit the vehicle and called emergency fire and medical personnel, who pronounced Ivory dead.
Flores, who had previously been convicted of driving under the influence in 2020, allegedly told police he believed Flores told officers he hit a deer in Dallas.
Despite having a badly damaged hood and a large scratch on the windshield, Flores drove 38 miles and stopped in a Jack in the Box parking lot between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. investigators said. That was at least two hours before the customer called police.
Jack in the Box employees told police that Flores, covered in blood, entered the fast food restaurant looking for a cell phone charger.
Detectives said they believe the impact was so severe that Ivory was thrown into the vehicle while she was in a crosswalk near Cockrell Hill Road and Interstate 30 in West Dallas. White Settlement police said Ivory's leg was recovered from the accident scene and the rest of her body was found on the passenger side of Lujan's car.
On Wednesday, December 20th, Ivory's family released the following statement on behalf of their loved one.
“Terry Ivory was our brother. He was talented, loving, caring, and a hard worker who would do anything for his job. He was funny and had a great smile. He loved and supported his family. “He went out of his way to help others despite his circumstances. He was loved and will be greatly missed.”
On Tuesday morning, NBC 5 learned that Flores was transported to Dallas County, where he was booked into the county jail and charged with death in the crash. The amount of bond has not been set, and it is unclear whether Flores has retained an attorney to represent him.
