FedEx will open a new FedEx Ground sorting facility in south Dallas and will hire 1,200 people to help operate the facility.
The 778,000-square-foot warehouse will be located at 3900 Cedardale Road, south of Interstate 20 near Lancaster, and will be able to process up to 15,500 packages per hour.
In a press release, FedEx cited “explosive growth in e-commerce” and the need to “optimize package capacity in time for the holiday season” as key drivers for adding regional sorting facilities.
“Regional sorting facilities are designed to alleviate hub capacity constraints by serving as regional direct input points for large e-commerce customers. “This allows packages to be delivered closer to the end customer, bypassing extensive hub sorting operations,” FedEx said.
FedEx Ground is adding regional sorting facilities in six markets, including Dallas. Other capital investments include four new automated stations, new or expanded eight large packaging centers, and expansion of 50 existing operating facilities with additional material handling equipment and automation.
