No one was prepared for it when Brandon Aubrey missed his first field goal.
What happened during the 2023 Dallas Cowboys regular season feels like water under Whocares' bridge at this point, but hopefully as enough time passes and the disappointment fades, everything will be resolved. It will remind you of what you really enjoyed before it fell apart.
One of the most interesting days of the trip came during the team's last win, a Week 18 game on the road against the Washington Commanders. Dallas faced a long-time division rival with a win that would have guaranteed them a spot in the NFC East. and Number 2 seed in the NFC – a luxury they completely ruin. But we are moving forward (or trying to move forward)!
The game feels like a long time ago, but if you remember it long enough, you may remember that it was a little tense early on considering all the stakes. Dallas took a while to find its footing, and rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey's missed field goal for the first time in his career also contributed to the slow start. He even missed a second before scoring a goal.
During the game's broadcast, Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen's FOX team focused on how Aubrey didn't miss a season before lining up for the fateful game. Lo and behold, the kick was blocked and the internet was screaming that FOX had jinxed Aubrey.
Thanks to DiGiorno, I was able to meet up with Burkhardt and Olsen this week to hear all about this moment. They said there was a backstory involved. You can watch the clip just below.
What's interesting about this duo and their associated sideline reporters, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldo, is that they covered a total of nine Dallas Cowboys games during the season. This is quite a number for a team that played a total of 21 games.
As always, I asked him what it's like to cover the team so often, and how he approaches them as the season progresses. We also discussed the temperature surrounding the team at the moment. You can watch our entire conversation below and on the Blogging The Boys YouTube channel.
I said at the beginning that Burkhardt and Olsen were joining us to replace DiGiorno, but interestingly enough, that was specifically as a result of the campaign that DiGiorno is running next Sunday (as you know… .) big game). If the kicker takes a kick (even if it goes through the uprights) at any point during the Super Bowl, he or she will earn a free pizza. You can find all the information you need here.
Thanks to Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, and DiGiorno.
