Mr. Schofield, a Texas certified public accountant, tried to unseat Capriglione, but was unsuccessful. Mr. Capriglione won the primary with 69.6% of the vote and Mr. Schofield with 30.4%.
“It has been an honor to represent the voters of the 98th Texas House of Representatives District for the past 12 years. Today, I want to thank all of my constituents for their renewed support,” Capriglione said in a statement. .
Capriglione was first elected in 2012 and is seeking his seventh term representing District 98, which includes Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake and Euless. His annual salary as a senator is $7,200.
If Capriglione is re-elected, his top priorities will include border security and lower property taxes.
“I look forward to returning to Austin to continue to secure our borders, improve the efficiency and accuracy of the property tax assessment process, and protect Texans' online privacy,” he said in a statement. .
Democrat Scott White, an IT consultant, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and will face Capriglione in the November general election. If elected, District 98 ISD funding and individual reproductive health rights will be priorities.
“This special district has a very important duty to protect itself, but also to the rest of the state,” White previously told the report.
The general election will be held on November 5th.
