Stephen Curry will be re-examined on Tuesday due to his ankle injury, and there are hopes that he will be able to suit up in time for Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. But head coach Steve Kerr doesn't want to get fans' expectations up.
As it stands, it's still unlikely that Curry will return against the Mavericks.
After Monday's game against the San Antonio Spurs, the second straight game in which Curry missed, Kerr emphasized to reporters that he does not expect Curry to return from injury on the trip to the Big D.
Kerr noted that Curry will be re-evaluated in the future, but whatever it is, it appears they intend to give Curry more time to rest rather than rush him back.
“clearly, I will re-evaluate tomorrow. But I don't expect him to play in Dallas, so we have another tough game ahead of us. This was clearly necessary. We're playing until the end of the season right now, so it's good to get a win without Steph and build confidence,'' Kerr said of Curry and the win against the Spurs, via NBCS.
Kerr and the Warriors' decision is definitely understandable. After all, they want Curry back as soon as possible to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they can't really risk him re-aggravating her injury. Any further injury to the 35-year-old would be even more problematic given how close the season is to the playoffs.
That being said, the best course of action for the Warriors is to give Curry as much time as he truly needs until he feels comfortable playing again.
How is Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry feeling?
As previously reported, an MRI scan of Stephen Curry's right ankle injury sustained during last week's game against the Chicago Bulls showed no abnormalities. This encouraging result raised hopes for his early return.
Additionally, Curry was recently seen entering the Warriors' facility without his walking boots on. He had crutches, but he wasn't using them. These are all positive signs that Steph's injury is not as serious as it initially appeared.
For now, the Warriors faithful can take comfort in knowing Curry is okay. As for his return, it looks like he will be back soon, but he won't be back this Wednesday, so fans should be patient.
