On April 2nd, Google Podcasts will officially shut down permanently in the US, forcing millions of users to find a new platform. This day has been a long time coming, as the tech giant first announced its closure in September 2023.
YouTube Music took its place, and the company rolled out multiple updates to make it the main platform for Google's audio content. Added “Podcasts” section with thumbnails, timestamps, and playlists. Other features include UI changes to make it easier to find shows on the site, as well as the ability to seamlessly switch between audio podcasts and videos.
To help with the migration, Google offers users ways to migrate their podcast data to YouTube Music or supports third-party services, although the latter can be a complicated process.
YouTube Music is the easiest migration, so we recommend sticking with it. However, according to Google's support page, you will need to transfer your data to another platform by July 2024. After that you're out of luck.
Easy steps to transfer data to YouTube Music
- Go to Google Podcasts

- Install YouTube Music

A detailed step-by-step guide on how to transfer data to YouTube Music
- Launch the Google Podcasts app and tap Export Subscriptions at the top.
- next window[YouTube Music にエクスポート]under options[エクスポート]Select the button. YouTube Music will open on your device page with brief instructions and an option to transfer your data.
- [転送]Tap the button to proceed. If YouTube Music isn't installed on your phone, you'll be prompted to install the app.
A small revealed box rises from below. When displayed, press “Continue”. It may take several minutes for the data transfer to complete. The time it takes depends on the number of subscriptions.
Transfer to third party services
As before, tap “Export Google Podcasts Subscription,” but this time select “Download” in the “Export to another app” section. This will create an “OPML” file that you will need to upload to your third party platform.
The process for uploading OPML files varies by app. First, you need to find an app that actively supports formats like Podcast Addicts, Cast Box, and Pocket Casts. We recommend downloading the third option, as Pocket Casts probably has the cleanest interface and will show you the import tool right after you open it.

Again, if you want the easiest method, stick to YouTube Music migration. A YouTube representative said Google Podcasts will be shutting down “for all users around the world later this year,” but could not say exactly when.
