San Antonio-based grocer HEB has plucked two more stores from its Dallas-Fort Worth land bank as it transitions to a new list of stores under development.
One of those locations could be the store of the same name, located in a convergent urban block in Tarrant County's Hearst-Euless-Bedford region. This area is commonly referred to as the HEB area because of the combined independent school districts.
Bedford Mayor Dan Cogan has reinstated a new round of alphabet fun that will definitely become part of the culture of this HEB store.
“HEB is finally HEB!” Kogan said in an email. Some of the parcels are in Bedford and Euless.
Euless Mayor Linda Martin said residents came up with the slogan “HEB to HEB” and have been saying it for years.
A site in Murphy in eastern Collin County is also officially in the planning stages. Located on the southwest corner of McCreary Road and FM 544.
Both properties have been owned by HEB for many years as HEB began accumulating prime corners in D-FW 20 years ago.
The two stores are expected to open in the second half of 2026, said Mabry Jackson, a spokesperson for HEB. HEB plans to open four new stores in 2024 and four more in 2025.

HEB will open at the northwest corner of Cheek Sparger Road and Heritage Avenue in an area locals call Glade Parks South. The 14.5-acre parcel is divided into 8.5 acres in Euless and 6 acres in Bedford. There is a Walmart across the street on the south side of Cheek Sparger in Bedford.
Euless City Manager Loretta Getchell said the two cities entered into an “interlocal agreement” regarding the land in 2015. “This agreement is best for us and HEB. We don't have to worry about where the cash register is.”
He said Euless and Bedford will split sales and property taxes equally. It's common for the three cities to work together, she said, but it's unusual to have to split operations down the middle.
The deal “will facilitate a smooth and seamless development process for the site,” Martin said.
“We've had joint meetings in the past, and the next one will be this week,” Bedford Interim City Manager Andrea Roy said. “It is not HE-B's fault that the property was divided.”
Residents have known for years that HEB is the property owner.
“We're getting calls asking if we're still building,” Getchell said. “And we had to say that never happened.”
it's true. Too. Murphy Mayor Scott Bradley spoke for Murphy.

“You'll hear some friendly jeering that another city will be announced as getting the HEB and Murphy isn't on the list,” Bradley said.
Murphy's property is located at the southwest corner of McCleary Road and FM 544. There's a Target across McCleary Road and Sprouts Farmers Market on FM 544 just northwest of his property. Murphy also has a Walmart.
Bradley said it's a win for Murphy, a small town that has “grown” with most of its land occupied and a population of about 22,000, nearly three times the size of neighboring Wylie.
Murphy is building new pedestrian bridges, landscaping and trails along FM 544 where HEB will enter, he said. “HEB is a good fit. We are primarily a residential community.”
People are also used to driving to nearby towns, he said. This location is convenient for those who live in East Plano, Zacks, and Wylie. The target across FM 544 from the HEB site is located in Wylie.
HEB plans to open a store in Rockwall next year, and the Murphy store will be strategically located between HEB stores that opened in Allen and McKinney, Jackson said.
