episode notes
This week, host June Thomas speaks with Courtney Gilbert, curator of the Sun Valley Museum of Art in Ketchum, Idaho. In her interview, Courtney delves into the curation process of a “non-collecting” museum. This means we start from scratch for each exhibition and do not keep a large inventory of works. She also explains how she comes up with ideas for exhibitions, what a good exhibition should do, and how she contributes to specific communities.
After the interview, June and co-host Isaac Butler talk about the importance of creating guidelines and best practices for our work.
In an exclusive segment on Slate Plus, Courtney talks about her education and career.
