Apple has rolled out iOS 17.4 to iPhones, including the iPhone 15 lineup. It includes some great new features to note, including support for third-party app stores in some regions. There are also new emojis, improvements to Apple Music, and more.
Additionally, if you enjoy listening to podcasts on Apple's Podcasts app, it now supports transcripts. These new transcripts allow you to read along while listening to your favorite podcasts. But how do you find and enable this feature? Here's how.
How to find transcripts on Apple Podcasts
Transcripts display the full text of each episode and also allow users to navigate through the podcast episode while reading it.
Searching for keywords and phrases within the transcript is also supported, and you can also tap the transcript text to jump to that point in the episode. As the episode plays, each word is highlighted for easy understanding.
But how do you find transcripts in the first place?
step 1: Open. podcast App on iPhone.
Step 2: Find a podcast episode and start playing.
Step 3: Expand. Now playing Swipe up from the bottom of the screen or select your audio player.
Step 4: choose transcript Button in the bottom left corner. It looks like a speech bubble with a quote inside it.
Step 5: When the episode plays, the text in the transcript will be highlighted. Tap on the text to jump to that point in the episode.
Step 6: Swipe down to hide the player controls (or let them disappear naturally for a few seconds). This results in search option.select search If you want to search for a specific word or phrase.
Step 7: Enter the word or phrase you're looking for.
Step 8: A number of results will pop up in real time, and you can select the arrows to jump to those points in the transcript.
Which podcasts have transcripts available?
When you update your iPhone to iOS 17.4, the new transcription feature starts working immediately.
Apple says transcripts will be automatically available as soon as new episodes are published. Audio will be available as usual, but there will be a short delay as the transcript must be generated and processed.Thankfully, it doesn't take Too length.
If dynamically inserted audio changes any part of the podcast audio, the transcript will not show any segments of audio that have changed since the original transcript. Music lyrics also do not appear in the transcript. Additionally, a backlog of older existing episodes will be transcribed over time.
The transcript feature works for all podcasts, but creators who wish to provide their own transcripts can also do so. For this to work, it must be served through an RSS tag or sent to a subscriber's episode through Apple Podcasts Connect.
What languages are supported?
Transcripts are available in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, and German podcasts. Unfortunately, translation from one language to another is not possible.
Transcript functionality is available in over 170 countries and territories.
