With iOS 17.4, Apple released new emojis as well as a number of major changes to how the App Store works in the European Union. Additionally, the company also unveiled a new feature for his Apple Podcasts app: Transcripts.
As Apple explains, Transcript allows “users to read the entire episode, search for specific words or phrases within the episode, and tap the text to play the podcast from that point in the episode. As the episode plays, each word is highlighted, making it easier to understand.
Sarah Hellinger, Apple's senior director of global accessibility policy and initiatives, said in a statement: We're excited to make transcripts widely available to everyone, adding a layer of accessibility to the podcast experience. ”
This new feature is available on all iPhones running iOS 17.4 and all iPads running iPadOS 17.4. At launch, it will be available in English, French, Spanish, and German podcasts. The company says new episodes will be transcribed immediately after publication, and existing podcasts will be transcribed over time.
