Thousands of songs have disappeared from TikTok in recent months after music giant Universal Music Group (UMG) removed its catalog from the app. UMG argues that TikTok is a music platform and that TikTok needs to pay more to license its music. TikTok claims to be a marketing platform that helps labels promote their artists. But while the two sides are in contention over negotiating music licensing deals on video platforms, many artists are in turmoil.
Guest: Ethan Millman, staff writer for Rolling Stone who covers the music industry.
