Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic exploded for 20 points in the first quarter of Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. Doncic seems eager to finish the series in five games rather than return to Dallas for Game 6 and punch his ticket to the NBA Finals.
As Doncic was exploding in the first quarter, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant reacted to the game he was watching, posting the following on Twitter:
Morant has had some great battles with Doncic and the Mavericks in the early stages of his NBA career. The two star guards are some of the most exciting players in the NBA. Morant and the Grizzlies will be looking to get back to the playoffs where Doncic and the Mavericks dominated this year. The Western Conference is expected to be very competitive next season, but the Grizzlies believe they can be near the top of the league.
The Mavericks’ run serves as a good blueprint for many teams because while there’s no way to replicate a superstar like Doncic, Dallas was able to significantly strengthen its team with some solid additions at the trade deadline. Often, it’s those subtle moves that make the difference between a team that advances and one that falls early.
For Dallas, it all starts and ends with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who have been surrounded by a very solid supporting cast for much of this playoff season.
