Starting next Thursday night, John and I heard Jaguars coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke speak to the media at the team's annual pre-draft luncheon on Wednesday. We discussed the Jacksonville Jaguars' strategy for the 2024 NFL Draft.
The reporter began with Baalke answering questions about drafting based on immediate needs rather than finding value.
“Trying to find the best players, that's what we try to do in the draft. Of course we have some needs that we have to address and the board needs to move in the right direction. The needs are Most importantly, we're going to stick to our formula and draft the best players available.”
“Well, most of the time there isn't that much of a gap between a need and another position. When in doubt, I'm willing to accept that need if it's close. If there's a big distance between the two. Usually what we've done in the past has been to stick to the formula and take the best player available. Again, if it's close. , we are willing to accept higher needs.”
John and I talked about how this could impact Jacksonville's Round 1 plans, what a potential trade up would look like, and when an extension for Trevor Lawrence would be. We broke down how Tom Gamble will impact the front office and much more. Thank you for listening!
