The Cowboys will have three more representatives in the Pro Bowl game this week in Orlando.
The NFL announced that defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, tight end Jake Ferguson and guard Tyler Smith have been added to the NFC roster.
Lawrence was added to replace 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa and Ferguson was added to replace 49ers tight end George Kittle as San Francisco heads to the Super Bowl again. Tyler Smith will actually be replacing Cowboys guard Zach Martin, who chose not to participate this week for personal reasons.
The Cowboys currently have 10 players selected to the Pro Bowl, but with Martin out, only nine are expected to participate in this week's festivities.
The Cowboys originally selected seven players to the Pro Bowl game. On offense, quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and guard Zach Martin were selected. Micah Parsons and Daron Brand were selected on defense, and kicker Brandon Aubrey and punter Brian Unger made the Pro Bowl on special teams.
This is Lawrence's fourth selection after just completing his 10th professional season. Lawrence is considered one of the best run-stopping defensive ends in the NFL, and his value seems to have increased recently among voters, players and coaches. Lawrence had just four sacks this year, but had six tackles for a loss, and had a knack for making big plays when the defense needed a stop. Lawrence appeared in the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2018 and is currently playing in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Ferguson had a breakout year in his second year, but he started out as a starting pitcher. The Cowboys' decision not to re-sign Dalton Schultz cleared the way for Ferguson, who had 71 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns.
He was fairly consistent throughout the season, recording at least four receptions in 11 games. Ferguson was one of the lone bright spots in the playoff loss to the Packers, catching 10 passes for 93 yards and three touchdowns, making him the second player in franchise history (Preston) to have a three-TD game in the playoffs. Pearson).
Ferguson becomes the first Cowboys tight end to make the Pro Bowl since Jason Witten made the Pro Bowl for the 11th time in 2017. Overall, the Cowboys, along with Witten, Jay Novacek, Doug Cosby, Billie Joe Dupree, Dick Bielski, Lee Falkins, and now Ferguson, have tied the tight ends seven times in franchise history with at least one. has been to the Pro Bowl.
This is Smith's first selection after two seasons as a player, but he was originally a guard.
Smith missed the first two games with a hamstring injury, but was able to return to the lineup at left guard for most of the regular season.
The selection of Smith and Martin marks the first time since 1996 that both starting guards have made the Pro Bowl, and the first time since Nate Newton and Larry Allen.
