Alongside the exit meeting, the entire team met with Mike McCarthy at noon to express their feelings about the end of the season.
“He felt sorry for us,” Lewis said. “He really wanted it for us. The type of people we were talented and he knew how united we were. He wanted it .”
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones also came to see the team and expressed a sense of urgency about the team's desire to win.
“His message was we have to win,” Lewis said. “It's the Dallas Cowboys. We had everything to win. We can't keep feeling like this, so that makes sense. I just feel like he wants to win right now. .The urgency is now. That was always our goal.''He made it clear that was important. ”
Amid speculation about what impending decisions Jerry Jones may make regarding players, Mike McCarthy, and others, Lewis took the opportunity to protect his head coach and quarterback for the season.
“This is one of the toughest jobs in America,” he said. “Quarterback and head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. This is how I am.” [McCarthy’s] They did a great job all things considered. It's kind of difficult, isn't it? We made sure to put our arms around each other and stay together even though there were a lot of people against you and there was noise outside. I think he did a really good job. ”
