Jets fans can rejoice now. The Zach Wilson Jets era is finally over.
On Monday, they traded the 2021 No. 2 overall pick to the Broncos for a late draft pick.
The Jets were at the point where they had to burn through money and release Wilson.
Instead, they could get something and send him to a team where he could get a fresh start and maybe even a chance to play.
Wilson's three years with the Jets were a nightmare for the team and its fans.
With Aaron Rodgers and current backup Tyrod Taylor available, there was no reason for Wilson to be on the roster.
With the 2024 NFL Draft just days away, this week was the week to complete the move and GM Joe Douglas was able to move him.
Speaking of the draft, Brian Costello and I returned just in time for Monday's pre-draft podcast, “Gang's All Here.”
We take a mock pick at No. 10 for the Jets and react to the Wilson trade and everything that happened in the last six weeks of the Jets' offseason.
Zach Wilson trade: The trade happened after I recorded the podcast, so I opened the trade. That was natural. Having him off the roster takes a weight off the Jets' shoulders. It had to be done. They couldn't go into training camp with him still here. The fact that they got him something in return is a blessing in itself.
Offseason review: I loved Mike Williams' story in Taylor's Ham, Egg, and Cheese. Koz wasn't a big fan of it. We both loved the Haason Reddick trade to the Jets. Koz wasn't the biggest fan of the Jets letting Bryce Huff go, but Redick might be better in the short term.
10th pick: What should the Jets do with the No. 10 pick? Do you want to leave it alone? Trade up? Do you want to trade down? We consider all the different scenarios.
Mock pick: The Jets will be taking tight end Brock Bowers. I think giving Aaron Rodgers another tight end target will make this offense more dynamic as this guy can also play in the slot. You could use him and Tyler Conklin at the same time, giving the future Hall of Fame QB so many options.
