President Joe Biden raised $4.5 million at a fundraiser in Dallas, event organizers announced.
Biden’s biggest takeaway from his two events Wednesday night came from a fundraiser hosted by Dallas lawyer Russell Budd, who said the event raised $2.5 million.
“This has been an incredible success,” Budd said at the fundraiser. “This is the highest-profile event of the week for President Biden and the state of Texas.”
A second event, hosted by Dallas businessman Neeland Youngblood, brought in $2 million, although Youngblood said the event’s original goal was $1.5 million.
“It was a huge success,” said Youngblood, who ran a fundraiser for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.
Youngblood said organizers and co-hosts of the fundraiser include former Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban, Dallas philanthropist Margot Perot, Roseanne Pride (widow of country music legend Charley Pride), former National Security Advisor Susan Rice and former U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.
Biden spent the night in Dallas before flying to Houston on Thursday for another fundraiser. The president made no public appearances while in the state, and this time the visit was solely to draw money from Republican-held Texas, which is expected to send former President Donald Trump’s 40 electoral votes in November.
