It's been about a year and a half since JPMorgan Chase & Co. moved to 1900 N. Akard St. in downtown Dallas, and the financial services giant is growing in the office building overlooking Klyde Warren Park.
The move is set to accommodate JPMorgan's growing workforce in the area, giving the company 167,000 square feet and approximately 700 workspaces within the building.
When JPMorgan first leased space in the 14-story Hunt Consolidated headquarters building on the Woodall Rogers Freeway, the first floor was occupied by a Chase branch, and floors two through five of the building were occupied there. The original lease was to house about 600 workers.
“Our growth in Dallas continues,” JPMorgan Chase Dallas Chairman Elaine Agarther said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be able to grow our presence in such a beautiful and well-located workspace. The energy you feel when you walk inside is palpable. Our employees won't want to miss a day of it. No. It's fun, and our clients feel it too.”
The expansion will add six floors and total approximately 31,000 square feet.
The bank plans to add renovations to the floor, including offices, conference rooms, restrooms, break rooms and open office space, according to filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Kogan is renovating the space, which will begin in May, with a handover date scheduled for Dec. 31.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon reiterated Texas' business friendliness during a visit to Houston on Tuesday. And the company's commitment to expanding its workforce in the state backs that up. In recent years, Texas has surpassed New York in terms of the number of JPMorgan employees. Lone Star State has more than 30,000 employees, compared to less than 29,000 in New York state.
Dallas-Fort Worth has emerged as a mecca for financial services companies and jobs over the past decade. A recent study by commercial real estate services firm JLL found the region was second only to New York in job openings from 2021 to 2023. Dallas-Fort Worth had 64,191 job openings over the two-year period, compared to New York's 129,072.
JPMorgan will move from its longtime home at 2200 Ross Avenue, formerly known as Chase Tower, in 2022, sparking a domino effect among the broader financial services community and opening a new location in Klyde Warren Park. I got closer and closer. Bank of America has announced plans to move into the 30-story Parkside Uptown high-rise, and Goldman Sachs has officially committed to the upcoming North End development.
