FC Dallas announced Friday that it will host Inter Miami CF in a preseason friendly later this month at Cotton Bowl Stadium at Fair Park in Dallas.
The match will be held on Monday, January 22nd at 5pm. The match will be FC Dallas' return to its home pitch for the first time since 2009.
The friendly will be FC Dallas' first preseason match of the 2024 season and the second-ever preseason meeting between Dallas and IMCF.
“We look forward to playing in the Cotton Bowl and welcoming Inter Miami CF to the iconic stadium that was the franchise's original home,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “This is a great way to start 2024 and get the DFW market excited about the players and the upcoming MLS season.”
Superstar Lionel Messi stood up to take a free kick in the 85th minute of a League Cup game against FC Dallas in Frisco with Inter Miami leading 4-3 last August. And just like in his debut against Cruz Azul, he scored a goal. However, this time it was on the streets of Toyota Stadium.
Last month, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez signed for Inter Miami, reuniting with his former Barcelona teammates. Suarez and Messi spent six seasons together in Spain, winning four Spanish league titles and nine other trophies.
FC Dallas forward Bernard Kamungo and defender Nkosi Tafari have been called up to the U.S. Men's National Team's January camp, which will run from January 8-16. Both should be back in North Texas in time for the friendly.
The roster for the friendly will be shared at a later date.
“We are excited to bring FC Dallas back to its original home in the Cotton Bowl for a game against Inter Miami,” said Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson. “Dallas is a dynamic city with deep soccer roots, and this highly anticipated match is sure to add to the soccer conversation as we prepare to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
The two teams have met three times in the MLS regular season, with Dallas holding a record of 2-0-1.
