Luka Doncic has been breaking record after record throughout the Dallas Mavericks’ playoff run, and it didn’t stop there after Tuesday night’s Game 4 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Doncic recorded 10 assists in the game, moving him past Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki for the most playoff assists in Mavericks history with 365, breaking Nowitzki’s record of 360.

Doncic has only played 44 playoff games, while Nowitzki has played a whopping 145, further highlighting Dallas’ turnover at the point guard position over the years, with the German followed by some of the greatest guards in Mavs history: Steve Nash (324 playoff assists), Jason Kidd (312), Jason Terry (302) and Derek Harper (295).
Doncic broke one of Nowitzki’s many playoff records, but he still has a long way to go to break Dirk’s playoff record of 3,663 points. At his current pace, Doncic needs to play 74 more playoff games to pass Dirk, but he’s already third behind Nowitzki and Jason Terry, just 102 points behind Terry. Heading into Game 5 on Thursday night, Doncic has 1,364 career playoff points.
Luka, in his sixth season in the NBA, has a chance to advance to the NBA Finals before Nowitzki, with the Mavericks leading the Timberwolves 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals. It’s been eight seasons since Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance in 2006.
