Luka Doncic has been on a tear lately after setting a number of records in recent weeks. Next, Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford offered some witty advice to opposing teams on how to stop the All-Star guard from scoring on pick-and-rolls.
Most recently, Doncic recorded seven consecutive 20-point triple-doubles, the longest in league history, in a win over the Chicago Bulls. Although his streak of hitting 30-point and 35-point triples came to an end, the Mavericks star still hit the mark.
In that game, Dallas outscored the Bulls by a score of 127-92. Doncic played 33 minutes on the court and had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists. Meanwhile, Gafford, the Mavericks' recent acquisition, had 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
So far, Gafford's addition has proven beneficial for Doncic and the Mavs. The Slovenian All-Star used his size, athleticism, and speed to find a capable partner in the pick-and-roll.
Dallas Mavericks' Daniel Gafford shares witty perspective on how to stop him and Luka Doncic from picking-and-rolls
The partnership between Doncic and Gafford seems to be working well, as seen in recent games. But the latter has some nifty advice for defenders looking to stop the pair.Posted by Cody Westerlund of X:
“How do you stop a Luka Doncic pick-and-roll?'' Daniel Gafford: “Just pray,'' Westerlund said.
Gafford's reaction may come across as cocky, but his time on the court with Doncic is proof enough that their pick-and-rolls are getting results for both of them. The 6'10″ center's efficiency has improved since his days with the Washington Wizards before being acquired by Dallas.
With the playoffs approaching, opposing teams will have to do their homework when facing Doncic. Sure, they'll soon be facing a strong pick-and-roll from the All-Star guard and Gafford.
