The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be interested in an addition to fill an empty spot on their roster.
The Dallas Mavericks acquired P.J. Washington Jr. and Daniel Gafford before the NBA trade deadline. This addition strengthens Dallas' depth around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.dallas look at it as you make it Will a post-trade deadline be added?
“We were told before last night's game that the Mavs were definitely going to try to fill the open roster spots if they could find the right players, because they said, 'We definitely have more depth.' No, because it's never too deep,'” Brad Townsend said. The Dallas Morning News wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday:
The Mavs lost 133-111 to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, ending their winning streak at seven. Nevertheless, the Mavericks played an arguably improved brand of basketball in recent weeks. Their trade deadline acquisitions undoubtedly played a role in their success.
There's nothing wrong with adding more depth. Unfortunately, there were too many injuries for Dallas in the 2023-24 season. The Mavs are mostly healthy at this point, so they can rely on their stars while still utilizing their depth.
Jason Kidd spoke after Saturday's practice about the Mavs' potential future rotation plans.
“I think we can use our depth on this road trip,” Kidd said. “We'll probably be looking at a 10-man, maybe 11-man rotation. Again, we're trying different combinations…but we also have to find ways to win ballgames. That's the first thing…we're going to compete to win. And the second thing is to get different combinations and maybe leverage our depth.”
That's a good problem. The Mavericks hope he continues to stay healthy through the 2023-24 season. Either way, Dallas still seems open to adding another player to fill the open roster spot.
