The Dallas Mavericks ended the first half of the season on a high. The team has won 7 wins and 3 losses in their last 10 games, winning six straight before the All-Star break.
Derek Lively II is one of the players who contributed to the team's success. The Dallas rookie has become a key part of the Mavs' rotation. He played in 37 games, averaging 9.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.
In the team's final game before the All-Star break, Lively II had eight points, five rebounds, and four blocks in 17 minutes of play. The Mavs rookie had missed the past seven games with a broken nose.
Injuries have been a hindrance for Lively II this season. The 7-foot-1 center has missed 18 games due to injury. He missed the first time due to spasms in his back at some point in November, then injured his left ankle in December and January.
But Lively II's efforts have gone unnoticed. This month, he was selected to play in the Rising Stars Game. Lively II played a big role in helping his team win Friday night.
In the opening round of the festival, Lively II helped his team win the first game 40-35. He contributed with 6 points and 2 rebounds. Teammates such as Indiana Pacers forward Benedict Mathurin also played their part. Mathurin led the way despite dropping 18 points in the opening game.
During the championship game, Lively II shot 100% from the field and led all scorers with six points. Jaylen Williams of the Oklahoma City Thunder made the game-winning 3-pointer to help seal the deal. Team Jalen finished the finals with a 26-13 victory. Mathurin was awarded Rising Stars MVP for his overall contribution in both games.
Lively II performed well in both matches, using his versatility and quickness to attack as a lob threat. A classic example of this was when he caught New Orleans Pelicans guard Jordan Hawkins' alley-oop in the championship game.
Before the game, Lively II was very grateful for the invitation. He expressed his gratitude for the invitation he received.
“It feels great just to be invited and to be a part of this event. There are so many people who wish they could be a part of this event. You have to be grateful to be in the position that you are in. there is.”
