Final ranking: 1
When Joel Embiid went down with a severe torn MCL, Nikola Jokic instantly became the frontrunner for the MVP award. After some recent struggles, the Denver Nuggets will look to come out of the All-Star break with a fresh MVP candidate next.
To date, Jokic is averaging a double-double of 26.1 points and 12 rebounds per game. Not only does Jokic need to keep winning, but he also needs to increase his numbers if he wants to win the award without competition.
It's no secret that the Nuggets' success comes from their superstar center. Without Jokic, the Nuggets wouldn't be where they are today. Behind Jokic, the team is off to its best start in franchise history, entering the All-Star break with a 36-19 record.
Despite some recent struggles, the Nuggets have looked dominant all season. Fans need not worry about recent difficulties. But if these struggles continue beyond the first few games after the hiatus, there could be concern among Denver fans.
For the Nuggets to break out of their current 4th place spot, they will need to come out of the break with a strong winning streak. There is no room for mistakes in the Western Conference. The Nuggets will look to get back into the win column in their next game against the Washington Wizards.
