I'm Valerie Complex. I'm Deadline's deputy editor and film writer. Today we talk with Mayan Lopez, co-creator, writer, co-executive producer, and star of the NBC comedy series. Lopez vs Lopez It is set to return for a second season on April 2, along with George Lopez and Selenis Leyva.
She conceptualized the series from her own TikTok content and used it as a creative outlet during the pandemic. She plays her fictional self, a modern-day Gen Z daughter who strives to rebuild her dysfunctional relationship with her old-fashioned Latino father. I am drawing myself.

She then received extensive training at Second City's Conservatory Program and the Columbia University Comedy Writing and Performance Program in Chicago. Lopez honed her improvisational skills while performing with various improv troupes at Second City late at night after main stage shows, and did voiceover work in her hometown of Chicago and regional markets in the Midwest.
Lopez serves as an ambassador for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization. By using his voice and platform, Lopez is empowering Gen Z and Millennials to speak out and take action about their own mental health.
