MINOT, N.D. (KXNET) — Inflation is affecting everyone, including the senior community, and with the demand for everyday necessities increasing, two organizations have decided to take action.
The United Way and the Minot Association of Realtors are partnering on the Senior Essentials Drive, and leaders decided to start the program to help seniors on a tight budget.
This is the first year for the fundraiser, which ends June 14. Everyone is welcome to donate, and multiple locations are participating.
“The real estate and lender offices in the city are collecting the items,” said the Minot Association of Realtors’ public relations committee chairman, “so that people can contact their real estate or lender offices.”
If your office isn’t participating but would like to get involved, you can donate directly to the United Way.
They’re collecting nonperishable food items like granola bars, cookies, canned goods, and hygiene products like deodorant and toothpaste, but that’s not all they need.
“There’s a huge need for adult diapers and other incontinence products,” Alstad said, “They’re very expensive. We also have a monthly subscription option that can be sent directly to the United Way so area seniors can receive assistance year-round.”
Alstad said he wants to provide assistance to seniors who are struggling to meet daily necessities and needs.
Souris Valley United Way will be distributing all items to those in need at the end of the fundraiser.
