DALLAS (CBSNewsTexas.com) — The search for a murder suspect who shot and killed a Dallas police officer Thursday afternoon ended with his arrest in Louisville.
The incident began on Sept. 14 when officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 4800 block of Saine Street. Police said they witnessed the suspect shoot and kill another person, an acquaintance, before driving away.
Officers gave chase and eventually stopped in the 4700 block of Second Avenue. The suspect then fired again, hitting the officer in the chest. However, the police officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, survived.
He was taken to Baylor Scott & White and later released.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday, CBS News Texas received word that the suspect had been seen in Louisville. Officials said he was arrested without incident but had a gunshot wound to his leg from earlier in the day.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said he would provide more information about the suspect in the coming days.
