NAR said in a statement that Kasper, a married mother of seven adult children, “refused to do so and instead reported the threat to law enforcement.”
President-elect Kevin Sears will immediately assume the position of the group, which represents more than 1.5 million members working in the residential and commercial real estate industries.
Kasper, 55, did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
“The leadership team is deeply concerned about any attempt to undermine governance, and as a result, we are taking steps to protect the health of our organization,” NAR said in a statement.
Mr. Kasper's predecessor, Kenny Purcell, resigned in August, two days after the New York Times published a story detailing that Mr. Kasper sexually harassed women he worked with.
NAR CEO Bob Goldberg said after a federal jury found the group and some residential real estate agents liable for a conspiracy to artificially inflate commissions on home sales. He resigned in November, several months earlier than he had planned. NAR was ordered to pay $1.78 billion in this case.
“As chairman and as a long-time NAR member, I have always put NAR's interests first,” Kasper said in a statement Monday.
“Given the results of recent threats and the importance of this moment for myself, my family, and our organization, it is time to once again put NAR's interests first,” Kasper said.
NAR declined to comment beyond the statement.
The New York Times recently reported that the organization's executive committee several weeks ago adopted permanent bans from the organization's events for NAR elected officials who have resigned or been removed from office. The ban, adopted in reaction to Purcell's resignation, now also applies to Kasper.
Mr. Kasper is the broker-owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Silverhawk Realty in Boise Valley, Idaho. She is also the majority owner of two other real estate companies in the state, according to her biography in NAR.
A grandmother of six, she has served on the NAR board since 2016.
