As of 9 p.m. on May 28, approximately 200,000 people in Dallas were still without power due to severe thunderstorms that brought hurricane-force winds earlier in the day.
Flooding, hail and winds gusts exceeding 80 mph caused damage and widespread power outages in the Dallas area.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins issued a disaster declaration and said it could take days for power to be restored to some residents. About 800,000 customers were without power, including about 390,000 in Dallas County, according to PowerOutage.us.

As of 9 p.m., 190,687 customers in Dallas remained without power, according to the release, and crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible, but repairs could take days to complete.

The City of Dallas continues to work to clean up from today’s storm and resulting damage and to restore traffic signals.
According to the Dallas Transportation Authority, 316 traffic lights are out and 122 are flashing. Stop signs will be installed at major intersections.

The city has established debris removal teams to clear roads so on-call crews can access downed power lines. Residents should call 311 to report downed trees or debris on the roadway. 311 operators will forward road blockage information to the appropriate crew.
For wood debris on property, the city requires that it be piled up adjacent to the road, and the city has waived the requirement to put it out early for collection.
Additionally, the city will allow collection of wood debris up to 20 cubic yards for the next 15 days. Bulky household trash will not be included in collection.
