excellent patient care
Parkland Hospital is one of the nation's leading safety net institutions, and nephrology is one of its busiest services, with more than 30,000 patient visits annually. We also proudly serve veterans at the North Texas VA Medical Center, one of the largest in the nation. We also offer a quarterly referral clinic at Clements University Hospital, where we see patients from all over the country with complex kidney disease. Experts focus on genetic diseases including glomerulonephritis and vasculitis, bone mineral and stone diseases, and polycystic kidney disease. We have developed a highly successful kidney transplant program that delivers excellent patient outcomes. Check out our patient services.
Impact of research
We study all areas of kidney biology, including development, genetics, metabolism, bone mineral abnormalities, acute and chronic kidney disease, and polycystic kidney disease. Our clinical research applies informatics to large populations, conducts practical clinical trials, and contributes to domestic and international consortia to treat various conditions such as inherited kidney diseases, acute kidney injury, and hypertension. It is equally comprehensive as it develops a biorepository to address. Let's see how we can make a difference.
Educating future leaders
On our south campus stands a bronze statue of Dr. Donald Seldin, UT Southwestern's first nephrologist. Dr. Donald Seldin is a foundational figure in the history of this university and in the field of nephrology itself. The nephron raised above his right shoulder symbolizes our unwavering commitment to UT Southwestern's educational mission. Our faculty are recognized annually for outstanding contributions to education. In addition to a variety of clinical services that expose fellows to both the “basics” and the medical “zebras,” our trainees benefit from a comprehensive curriculum that includes innovative teaching techniques. The research traineeship is supported by a T32 Award from the NIH. Graduates of the General Fellowship and Transplant Fellowship excel in their chosen fields.
