Netflix has been wanting people to watch for decades, and now, with a new concept called Netflix House, it wants people to watch through a show-based “immersive entertainment experience.” And North Texas is one of only two places in the country where you can experience it.
The streaming giant plans to open a Netflix House at the Galleria Dallas Mall at the intersection of the LBJ Freeway and the Dallas North Tollway, and also has a second location in Pennsylvania at the King of Prussia Mall, both of which are scheduled to open in 2025.
Netflix already offers live experiences based on hit shows Bridgerton, La Casa de Papel, Stranger Things, Squid Play and Netflix Bites, but Netflix House will take it a step further and be “an unforgettable place to explore your favorite Netflix stories and characters across the screen all year round,” according to a Netflix blog post.
From immersive experiences to “retail therapy” and show-themed drinks
“At Netflix House, guests can enjoy regularly updated immersive experiences, indulge in some retail therapy, and literally savor the flavor of their favorite Netflix series and movies through unique food and drink offerings,” Netflix CMO Marianne Lee said in a statement. “We’ve launched more than 50 experiences in 25 cities, and Netflix House represents the next generation of our distinctive offering. In these venues, the stories we love will come to life in new, ever-changing and unexpected ways.”
Netflix said it chose the former department stores at The Galleria Dallas and King of Prussia Mall because “these shopping centers are some of the most popular in the US, with hundreds of retailers, high foot traffic and proximity to major cities.”
The Galleria Dallas will occupy more than 100,000 square feet on the first and second floors of the mall’s former Belk department store, which closed in 2020 and formerly housed Saks Fifth Avenue and Marshall Fields, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Galleria Dallas store will be located on the northwest side of the Galleria Dallas.
To give fans a taste of what’s to come inside, Netflix says the outside of the venue will feature “stunning sculptures and murals featuring characters from fan-favorite Netflix shows.”
“Imagine waltzing with your partner to an orchestral cover of a Taylor Swift song. Bridgerton Once you finish your set and turn the corner, you’ll be able to take part in the Glass Bridge Challenge. Squid Game“After pretending to fight for your life, you’re hungry and want to eat something. You see a dish inspired by Netflix shows from around the world at a local restaurant. The meal is memorable, but you still want to buy something,” Netflix wrote in a blog post. Stranger Things Merchandise. Luckily, there’s a store that sells the Hellfire Club T-shirts I’ve always wanted.”
Shopping malls are excited to be ‘at the forefront of the experience economy’
Angie Fried, general manager of Galleria Dallas, said hosting Netflix House “puts the center at the forefront of the experiential economy, which is such an important part of retail today.”
“Our focus is on providing our guests with the best experiences possible while shopping, dining and spending time with friends and family,” Fried added in a statement.
Galleria Dallas noted that the roughly 2 million-square-foot venue is “constantly evolving” with new retailers and restaurants opening.
