A trade association for rent-stabilized landlords in New York City has launched a podcast to discuss the latest housing news. Jay Martin, executive director of the Community Housing Improvement Program, is the host of Housing New York with Jay Martin, a program that launched this month and is now available on Spotify.
The weekly show is already in its second episode and covers topics such as the city's housing crisis, the expiring 421 (tax break for affordable housing construction), and record-low vacancy rates for livable apartments. is working on the theme of A spokesperson described it as an “In the Papers” style program, borrowing the format from a popular segment on Spectrum's NY1 morning newscast.
In a press release about the new podcast, the Community Housing Improvement Project says each episode will focus on top news stories impacting housing and politics in the city, and will be “a great way for housing providers, renters, and elected officials to “With these in mind,'' he said. Incorporating Martin's political views. ”
“Housing has never been more important than it is now,” Martin said in a press release. “New York City is in the midst of the worst housing crisis in half a century. Many renters are unable to find housing, or are unable to find housing they can afford or that fits their needs. Solving these problems is not that complicated, but it does require people to have a deeper understanding of what is going on and what options are available to create a better system. ”
Podcasts are also a direct way for rent-stabilized landlords to communicate their concerns and concerns to those in power. The organization, commonly known as CHIP, represents 4,000 “responsible owners and managers of more than 400,000 rent-stabilized rental properties in all five boroughs of New York City,” according to its website. The government is calling for deregulation of rent-stabilized apartments, arguing it doesn't generate enough revenue to fund much-needed improvements to the housing stock.
“Much of the way people consume news is on the go and increasingly not from traditional news media,” Martin said in a release. “This new weekly podcast is a natural extension of our ongoing efforts on social media to communicate and contextualize complex housing issues for New Yorkers. We reach hundreds of thousands of viewers each month across our channels. We’re reaching people, and we’re looking forward to seeing how ‘Housing New York’ helps grow the conversation.”
