WFAA has obtained a 911 call made by NFL star Von Miller's girlfriend on Wednesday. She downplayed the incident in a text message to WFAA, saying, “No one assaulted anyone.”
DALLAS — Star NFL linebacker Von Miller assaulted his pregnant girlfriend in a high-rise apartment in Dallas this week, according to multiple law enforcement officials, law enforcement officials and court documents obtained Thursday by WFAA. He is accused of having committed a crime.
Dallas police officials confirmed that a warrant had been issued against Miller, a 34-year-old DeSoto native who plays for the Buffalo Bills, for assault on a pregnant person, a third-degree felony.
Glen Heights Police Chief Nick Bristow confirmed to WFAA that Miller turned himself in to the Glen Heights Police Department on Thursday around 3 p.m. Mr. Miller was then taken to the DeSoto Police Department Detention Center for processing, where he was immediately posted $5,000 bail and released from custody.
WFAA confirmed Friday with U.S. Sen. Royce West, who is also an attorney, that West is representing Miller. But West declined to comment further.
Miller's employer, the Buffalo Bills, released the following statement regarding the allegations: “This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are working to gather further information. We have no further comment at this time.”
Police said at 11 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a call of a “serious disturbance” in the 3100 block of North Harwood in Uptown Dallas.
When officers arrived, they found Miller's longtime boyfriend with “minor abrasions” on his left hand and bruises on his neck. According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA, the injuries were caused by “compression applied to the neck.”
Police said officers learned that Miller and the alleged victim were in an argument when Miller assaulted her.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, police learned that Miller and his girlfriend were arguing in the bedroom because he didn't want to travel for his birthday this week.
According to the affidavit, the alleged victim went from his bedroom to his office and slammed the door in anger. Miller then became “visibly angry,” his affidavit states. He entered the office and yelled at his girlfriend to “get out” of the apartment, according to the affidavit.
The girlfriend “attempted to comply” with Miller's request to leave the house, but wanted to gather some items before leaving, according to the affidavit. Her affidavit states that while she was doing so, Miller “began pushing and shoving her while telling her to leave her unit.”
Miller then began attempting to film his girlfriend with his cell phone while “continuing to push and shove” her, according to the affidavit.
My girlfriend kept screaming, “Stop! I'm pregnant!” But Miller allegedly continued to push her, according to her affidavit.
The affidavit states that Miller “then began to put pressure on those around him.” [girlfriend’s] Press the neck for 3-5 seconds and then release. ”
The girlfriend tried to gather her belongings, but Miller grabbed her cell phone, threw her laptop on the floor and stomped on it, according to the affidavit.
When she tried to retrieve her laptop from the floor, Miller “grabbed her by the hair and pulled, eventually pulling out a clump of hair, causing her to fall to the ground,” the affidavit states. .
At this point, the girlfriend began filming the incident with her cell phone, which was in her pocket, according to the affidavit. Miller then grabbed her, pushed her onto the couch and again put his hands around her neck, according to her affidavit.
The girlfriend then got up and told Miller she was going to call police, according to the affidavit. At that point, Miller left the home, according to the affidavit.
By the time officers arrived at the scene, Miller was gone, police said.
His girlfriend told officers she was six weeks pregnant, according to the affidavit. Her affidavit states that she was treated at the scene for minor injuries and that officers then took her to her headquarters for a detailed interview about what happened.
WFAA obtained a recording of the 911 call made by the girlfriend.
“My boyfriend is choking me and hitting me…I have bruises all over my body,” she can be heard saying. “Her hair is falling out.”
When asked by a 911 dispatcher if her boyfriend was still with her, the girlfriend replied, “He just stormed out and left.”
When the dispatcher asked if paramedics were needed, she replied, “I don't know.” “He pulled my hair out. It looks like there's blood on it, but it's not… Yeah, I don't know.”
Reached via text message by WFAA, Miller's girlfriend downplayed the incident.
“We are fine,” she wrote. “Things have been taken way out of context. This is just outrageous!”
She called the incident a “huge misunderstanding” and said it was a “verbal disagreement.”
“No one assaulted anyone,” she texted. “This is insane and sad.”
