A month after 21-year-old Carlos Logue left home to start a new life, friends and family gathered in front of his new Dallas apartment Tuesday to mourn his death.
“How does he leave our family, get his own apartment, and then a month later something like this happens? I mean, we want justice for that. I want to know who it was,” said her aunt Victoria Barrera.
Dallas police said they responded to a shooting call at The McCarran-on-Ross apartment complex around 3 p.m. on New Year's Day, where they found Logue shot to death.
“It was inside his apartment and his money and jewelry were stolen,” Barrera said.
Questions remain about what led to the shooting and whether the complex's surveillance cameras captured the suspect on video.
“If it was in his apartment, it would either be someone who lives here or someone close to him,” Barrera said.
The facility did not respond to NBC 5's request for comment.
Logue grew up in North Texas. His family said he worked in construction and accounting and was inseparable from his mother, Vanessa.
“He was my best friend,” Vanessa Barrera said. “He was like my heart, my soul walking outside my body.”
