March 5, 2024 – NowDecatur alumnus and Mount Zion graduate Brandon Condlitz has been named a Top 10 finalist in the prestigious and competitive NPR College Podcast Challenge.
Kondlitz, a second-year multimedia journalism student at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, began her media career as host of NowDecatur.com's podcasts “Young Leaders In Action” and “Nobody Asked Us.” Mr. Kondlitz then joined his team at NowDecatur, first as an intern, and last year, a new intern joined him as the supervising director of his class.
The NPR College Podcast Challenge received more than 500 entries this year from campuses across the country. Kondlitz's podcast focused on the impact of abandoning his digital devices for a day. You can listen to the podcast here.
Condlitz said it was an incredible honor to be selected as a finalist and one of the top 10 college podcasts in the nation. “Like many others, I have always admired NPR as a platform for engaging, podcast-style content, and I have always admired NPR as a platform for engaging, podcast-style content, and I have always admired NPR as a platform for engaging, podcast-style content. Seeing it listed on the site is very real. This rating is also a testament to my time at NowDecatur, with two monthly podcasts and two summers covering the best of our community. It shows how much it taught me about good storytelling.”
Condlitz has already won a $500 prize as a top 10 finalist. NPR judges will announce her grand prize winner at the end of March. Grand Prize winners will receive her $5,000 scholarship and their podcast will be featured in her NPR newsmagazines such as: morning paper or Taking everything into account.
