The Dallas Mavericks are just three wins away from advancing to the NBA Finals, aiming for their first title since the 2011 season. On Wednesday night, the Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 to take a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference Finals.
Prior to the Mavericks’ win, three-time Super Bowl champion and Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes appeared on a television show to give his thoughts on the series. First things first on Fox Sports 1.
“It’s going to be a tough series, but I think the Mavs have what it takes,” Mahomes said of the Mavericks-Timberwolves matchup. “If Luka (Doncic) plays like Luka and Kyrie (Irving) plays like Kyrie, the Mavs have a great chance of winning the championship.”

Mahomes’ support for Dallas comes as no surprise: The Tyler, Texas native is a passionate supporter of the Mavericks franchise and has been in the stands on multiple occasions during the team’s current playoff run.
This isn’t a huge win for Mahomes either. The Mavericks have come together at the right time. They’ve become a different player defensively since making a key trade at the deadline and getting defensive help from rookie center Derek Lively II.
The Mavericks will try to emulate what the Chiefs did last season: win championships in their respective leagues. Doncic and Mahomes are geniuses in their respective sports, and both have derided supporting casts, but it doesn’t matter if the Mavericks can win on the biggest stage.
With a 1-0 series lead, the Mavericks started the conference finals by taking a game away from the third-seeded Timberwolves, closing in on home court advantage and taking series advantage.
