Patrick Mahomes praised Kyrie Irving's “greatness” last weekend, swapped jerseys with Luka Doncic and moved from NFL to NBA after Dallas Mavericks' buzzer-beating win over Denver Nuggets did.
The 28-year-old Chiefs quarterback, who won his third Super Bowl ring with Kansas City in February, attended the American Airlines Center on Sunday to watch the seventh-seeded Mavs take on the reigning NBA champions. The Nuggets are currently swapping daily with the Oklahoma City Thunder as the No. 1 seed in the West.
Wearing a Dallas blue Louis Vuitton shirt, Mahomes sat courtside during the game with his wife, Brittany, in an all-denim outfit paired with a Canadian tuxedo and white boots.
They watched together as Doncic and Irving combined for 71 points.
Doncic had 37 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Irving had 24 points, including a left hook shot from 6.1 feet with 2.7 seconds left.
The Mavs' point guard also had seven rebounds and nine assists.
“Great, Dawg. Great,” Mahomes told Irving when he met him in the tunnel after the game.
“Yes, sir,” Irving answered.
Mahomes also went to greet Doncic after Irving's dramatic win and presented the Mavs star with an autographed Chiefs jersey with his name and number on the back.
“It was a great game,” he told Doncic, before mentioning the playoffs, which begin on April 20.
“Good luck on your departure. I'll be back here. Indeed, thank you.”
Mahomes, a native of Tyler, Texas, an hour-and-a-half drive east of Dallas, was spotted at a Mavs-Lakers game last year after winning his second Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs.
