Rewind to 2012, and McCready delved into side projects ranging from UFO tribute band Flight to Mars to The Rockfords to pre-Pearl Jam band Shadow. The guitarists talked about how he borrowed (and continues to borrow) from bands like Kiss, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. Then came the big news (at the time). It was the announcement that he would be celebrating Mad Season, the one-off band he formed with Alice in Chains' Layne Staley, by re-releasing it in a deluxe edition.

Fast forward a year, and the 2013 interview picks up where Mad Season left off in 2012. McCready tells how he recorded three songs with Mark Lanegan and another with Killing Joke's Jaz Coleman. McCready then dives into the dark times of making this record and how he tried to help Staley overcome his addiction. When it's pointed out that McCready has played with nearly all of Seattle's most famous singers, he recalls the moment he tried to start a project with Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. What exactly happened…
