FRISCO, TEXAS — On the second day of the legal tampering period, the Cowboys finally made a move, agreeing to a one-year contract with long snapper Trent Sieg. Elsewhere, the league began poaching free agents at the Cowboys' positions of need, as the options continued to dwindle as the week progressed.
Here are the key storylines involving the Cowboys from Tuesday.
- The Cowboys started the morning by agreeing to a one-year contract with long snapper Trent Sieg. Let's put aside the cynicism for a moment and give credit to Zeke for being a big reason why Brandon Aubrey made All-Pro in his first year in the league and Brian Unger made it to his second Pro Bowl. Consistency in a specialty room is very important, and Sieg plays a key role in that.
- The Cowboys' dreams of officially signing Derrick Henry came to nothing on Tuesday when the future Hall of Famer agreed to a two-year, $16 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
- An interesting option surfaced on the running back market on Monday when the Bengals released Joe Mixon, but instead of officially releasing him, they could work out a trade with the Houston Texans. The Houston Texans had a big day across the league with the talent acquisitions on both sides of the ball.
- Aaron Jones, another running back who was surprisingly selected on Monday, grew up in El Paso as a Cowboys fan and caused a stir on social media when he was released by the Packers on Monday. But instead, he agreed to a one-year, $7 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.
- Former Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen was a big name finding a new career, and linebackers were dropped on the second day with dreams similar to Henry's. The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to a three-year contract worth $41 million.
- Tampa Bay linebacker Lavonte David has agreed to a one-year, $9 million contract that will see him return to the Buccaneers in 2024.
- The Cowboys had just one free agent on Tuesday, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr., joining Dorrance Armstrong and Tyler Biadasz and following Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders.
Multiple free agents remain unsigned for the Cowboys, with Tyron Smith, Stephon Gilmore, Jonathan Hankins, Rico Doodle and Jordan Lewis all unsigned.
High-profile players at the running back position remain available, including Cordarrelle Patterson, Alexander Mattison, Ezekiel Elliott, Donta Foreman, JK Dobbins and AJ Dillon. The linebacker position still has players like Devin White, Eric Kendricks and Kwon Alexander remaining.
Note: All agreed deals will not become official and can be signed until the start of the league year on Wednesday.
