conversation highlights:
(0:32) – What’s the latest on domestic politics and the presidential election?
(5:58) – An assessment of Governor Whitmer's State of the Union proposals and the state of Michigan politics and policy. “Last year was one of the most productive and ideological public policy moves we've seen in any state in almost 50 years. This is an extraordinary leftward shift they've achieved in their first year. They're ready to try even more.”
(9:27) – Economic Development, Research and Development Tax Credits, Population Growth – “Business location packages don’t really influence business decisions. People decide where to do business and then accumulate tax credits.”
(14:27) – Daunt joins the conversation to talk about the remapping process.
(19:50) – What did you wish you had seen from the beginning of the redistricting process?
(23:12) – How is the repaint going so far?
(25:36) – What is FAIR Maps Michigan’s role? What are your suggestions for the future? Where is this going?
(31:22) – “The commission has been quite recalcitrant about the lawsuit, and we encourage everyone to see this as an opportunity to correct what is by far the biggest flaw in this lawsuit.” I still support a change in party composition in relation to voting. This was a major public concern that was expressed very loudly and clearly. But it was ignored by the committee. Therefore, I We encourage you to view this not as a burden imposed by the court, but as a second chance to correct the process's biggest flaws.”
