Amy Arias has been appointed dean of the College of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs at the College of Charleston, effective July 1, 2023. In this role, Arias will further strengthen the school's dedication to preparing students to be insightful, knowledgeable, and engaged global citizens. An innovative leader, educator, and researcher, Arias fosters collaboration in education and research. She builds industry, community and international connections. She handles all aspects of research funding.
In her previous role as associate dean for research and creative activities in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University, Arias developed FAU's research strategy to increase external funding proposals and diversify external outlets for research. We worked on formulating a plan. Expand proposal submissions, cross-disciplinary faculty collaboration, and enhance research success.
Among her accomplishments is signing a memorandum of understanding with Fluminense University in Brazil to support faculty research collaboration and student exchange. Also at FAU, Arias served as assistant director of the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program. In this role, she trained students to participate in the Model European Union competition, served as an on-site advisor for the national Model United Nations, and founded the South Florida High School Model European Union. She also served as dean of the Department of Political Science and developed her five-year plan, which focused on enriching education, promoting a culture of research and inquiry, and connecting FAU with community and industry.
