Fear can hold us back and leave us feeling stuck. But how do we progress if we don't face what scares us? That certainly applies to us creators as well. Whether we're afraid of going freelance, starting a side hustle, applying for that job, or completely changing our lifestyle, accepting what we're afraid of can actually lead us to happiness. There is a possibility. What if it wasn't? Well, there are always lessons to be learned.
Joanna Henry is no stranger to change. She spent her childhood moving from place to place according to her parents' occupations. As she makes new friends at different schools and gets used to her new roots, she develops natural resilience and, as a result, no longer runs away from her fears.
It wasn't always like that. Like all of us, Joanna has her ups and downs. However, in 2019 she suddenly decided to leave London and go to Lisbon, and her entire lifestyle and career changed completely. And when her global pandemic happened, it motivated her even more to pursue her dreams.
She has become a creative mentor and currently works with aspiring, emerging, and mid-career artists to advance their creativity and careers. She has used everything she has experienced in her own journey as an illustrator, muralist, fine artist, digital and VR painter to help others. Joanna has worked with Reebok, Google, Vivienne Westwood and Wacom. She has presented her own work and ideas as her Apple's Inspiration Her Sessions, and has sold out workshops and masterclasses at venues such as the V&A, Saatchi and the National Portrait Her Gallery. I did.
Her work also hangs in the Saatchi Gallery and Somerset House, and her books are held in the Tate Gallery and the National Gallery. She has curated and exhibited her solo exhibitions in London and Hong Kong. Recently, she has presented her ideas and interactive art with everyone from Google to fashion giant Galliano, Land Rover Evoque World for her premiere she painted in VR, and much more. We are doing things.
So how do the rest of us face and overcome fear? How can we move forward as creators and discover new ways of working and living? Essentially, how can we get unstuck and move forward? Joanna has some great advice for anyone itching to make a big change this year.
